2018.02.16 : The "village de la chimie" arouses interest

In mid-February, Imperator took part in the Village de la Chimie at the Cousteau high school in Wasquehal, northern France, a careers fair dedicated to jobs in the chemicals industry.

What is the purpose of grease? Why is it that color? Do you absolutely need an engineering qualification to work in this particular sector? On 16 February, the Cousteau high school in Wasquehal hosted the Village de la Chimie, a careers fair organized by the Union of Chemical Industries (UIC) of France's Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. The event was an opportunity for Geert de Waele, General manager of the Imperator plant and Stéphane Roussel, projects manager of New Works to meet pupils and answer their questions. "I was pleasantly surprised by just how motivated these young people were", said Roussel. "Our discussions really were relevant".

Both representatives of the Baisieux site had brought along samples of grease to the careers fair, together with a scale model of a reaction vessel which piqued the young students' curiosity! "This kind of initiative promotes jobs in the chemicals industry and is particularly useful for getting rid of preconceived ideas", continued Stéphane. "Indeed, the chemicals industry recruits people from many different backgrounds – engineers, laboratory technicians and line operators – as well as people for its various support functions: maintenance, new works, human resources, the quality, health, safety and environment department (QHSE), etc." Areas which should arouse interest among these young secondary school pupils.
